Day 1: Marrakech – High Atlas Mountains – Ait Ben Haddou – Dades Valley
Your 3-Day Sahara Adventure begins with an early departure from Marrakech. Firstly, you’ll cross the dramatic High Atlas Mountains via the winding Tizi n’Tichka pass, which offers breathtaking panoramic views. Following this mountain crossing, the major highlight is a stop at the Ksar of Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site. For example, this iconic location has served as a filming location for productions like Gladiator and Game of Thrones. After exploring its ancient clay architecture, you’ll continue through the “Road of a Thousand Kasbahs” towards the Dades Valley. Consequently, you’ll spend your first night in a hotel nestled within this stunning area, known for its unique rock formations.
Day 2: Dades Valley – Todra Gorge – Merzouga Desert & Camel Trek
After breakfast, you’ll drive from the Dades Valley to the stunning Todra Gorge. Here, limestone canyon walls rise nearly 300 meters vertically, creating a spectacular spot for a walk. Subsequently, you’ll journey towards the Sahara, and as a result, the landscape will transform into arid plains. Upon arriving at the edge of the Erg Chebbi dunes near Merzouga in the late afternoon, you’ll mount camels for a serene trek. Specifically, this one-hour journey into the heart of the dunes leads to a mesmerizing sunset. Finally, your night is spent in a traditional desert camp, where you’ll enjoy dinner and music under the stars.
Day 3: Desert Sunrise – Return Journey to Marrakech
You’ll wake before dawn in order to witness an unforgettable Sahara sunrise. Afterward, following breakfast at the camp, you’ll return to Merzouga village. Next, the long return journey to Marrakech begins, typically through the Draa Valley. Throughout this drive, you’ll pass one of North Africa’s longest palm groves. Finally, after stops for lunch and breaks, you’ll arrive back in Marrakech in the early evening.
